Education:
1998-2002
BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Biology
2002-2003
Master Programm in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Bucharest
3/2003-9/2003
Research assistant at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy of Science, Bucharest
2003-2005
Master of Science, International Max Planck Research School, Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
2005-
PhD student, Department of Microbiology, Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
Scientific Interests and Goals:
- Carbon and nitrogen cycles with a special focus on hydrocarbon degradation in denitrifying conditions.
- Anaerobic hydrocarbon metabolism, from activation of inert compounds to their biomineralization.
- Metabolic interactions between organisms = syntrophic relationships, for degrading complex substrates which neither of the partners involved could perform on its own.
