Marine Institutes
Bremen and the Northwestern region of Germany have an international reputation as an outstanding location for research in the field of marine biology and geology that successfully attracts both national and international scientists and students.MarMic Partner Institutes
The MPI for Marine Microbiology is recognized worldwide as one of the most successful and productive institutes in the field of marine microbiology. Several microbiological research groups at the University of Bremen are among the leading laboratories in their field and complement the research at the MPI ideally. The active support and contribution from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven provides the IMPRS with a further source of internationally recognized expertise and excellence. The close collaboration with the private research university Constructor University Bremen (CUB), and the Marine Science departments therein offers excellent opportunities for synergistic and interdisciplinary research.-

Institutes surrounding the IMPRS
The attractiveness of the IMPRS is additionally enriched and enhanced by the MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, a marine geological research center granted to the University of Bremen by the German Research Foundation. The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) as well as the PhD program "Environmental Sciences and Biodiversity" at the Graduate School 'Science & Technology' at the University of Oldenburg are supplementing the IMPRS excellently. The Center for Marine Tropical Ecology with its M. Sc. program "International Studies in Tropical Ecology" (ISATEC) further supplement the IMPRS.
